Chips, lost balls and mud – 33 great ‘Parklife’ photos from grassroots football games in the Portsmouth area, 2001-2011

If you’ve ever played grassroots football, this is the picture gallery for you!

A sneaky chip while the game’s been temporarily stopped, muddy six-yard boxes, colour clashes, balls in hedges, having to put up the nets, refs wearing overcoats, smiles in the midst of a defeat, triumph and despair - a microcosm of parks football played throughout the land.

All these pictures were taken between 2001 and 2011 for a regular feature in The News called Parklife, focusing purely on those who played on a Saturday afternoon and/or Sunday morning just for the love of the game.

We hope they bring back some great memories.
