Brace from Avery helps City of Portsmouth romp to victory

Portsmouth defended well and attacked with purpose in their 4-0 victory over Southampton University in Hampshire League division one. 

Stu Avery fired in a double, while Ivan Boswell scored a superb goal from a tight angle, and Pete Hayward netted a short corner. 

Man of the match went to Luke Parsons.

City of Portsmouth II suffered a last-minute defeat at Haslmere III in Hampshire League division three.  

It was an exciting contest, with Martin King netting a hat-trick for the visitors while Martin King and Garry Bull were on the scoresheet. 

But City were punished by Haslemere late on and returned home empty-handed. Martin King was awarded man of the match.

The City side were slow out of the blocks and found themselves 3-0 down early on.

Alan Bull grabbed one back for the visitors before Jack Burn rounded off a brilliant move to offer hopes of a comeback. 

After Portsmouth squandered several chances in search of an equaliser, they left themselves exposed and were punished, with Yately scoring twice more.

Jack Boswel was awarded man of the match.

 

Basingstoke Ladies II 2 City of Portsmouth Ladies 0

City of Portsmouth Ladies suffered a frustrating loss at  Basingstoke.

The away side found themselves under pressure early on and fell behind.

Portsmouth did settle into the game and defended resolutely Basingstoke doubled their advantage when they broke on the counter attack.

Player of the match was awarded to goalkeeper Harriet Read.

 

City of Portsmouth Ladies II 3 IBM Nomads 1

The second team bounced back to winning ways with a 3-1 success over IBM.

Michelle Hughes was the hat-trick hero but Portsmouth delivered a superb all-round display

Captain Gemma English held the midfield well, while fledgling talents Lizzie Southorn and Danni Francis ran amok down the wings. 

City of Portsmouth under-16s 8 New Forest 0

The under-16s opened their season with an 8-0 romp against New Forest.

Harry Hellier scored five goals '“  the best being a 10-pass team move '“  while Jacob Shucksmith bagged a brace and Owen Barnes netted.
