FORTY firefighters tackled a huge fire that destroyed a £1.5m thatched cottage.

One person was taken to hospital and another treated at the scene after being alerted about the fire by quick-thinking neighbours.

Flames of up to 20ft were seen coming from the house, in East Meon Road, Langrish, near Petersfield.

Crews from Petersfield, Horndean, Waterlooville, Havant, Emsworth and Cosham were called to the fire at about 8.10pm on Sunday. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
